Exam Center - HKEAA

There is only one examination center offered to PMI via HKEAA at Sun Po Kong Office in HK

17 Tseuk Luk Street, San Po Kong, Kowloon, Hong Kong

From Wong Tai Sin MTR to the HKEAA takes around 20 minutes on foot. Then, you will walk up the stairs to 5F. So better plan the travel time as the exam start at 9:00am. I took a bus and aligned at "6" and walk for 10 minutes to the center and reaching the office at 8:30am.

The center has other candidates taking other exams. During my examination, a lot of candidates typing very quickly and loudly. Some candiates just come to the center and ask questions, some go outside to take a break. Luckily, I get used to it and not being affected by this noise.

Nothing could be brought into the center, they will provide you a locker to lock all your belongings like wallet, mobile phone, key etc. My calculator with "square root" function is not allowed to bring inside. That's okay as they already provide a calculator, two pencils and one blank sheet for me on the table.

Noted one thing, that the training instructors always suggest us to dump some formulas on the blank sheet provided during the tutorial session. This is not allowed any more. During the tutorial session, we're not allow to write anything on the paper until the examination timer start. Noted that. We're being monitored by a CCTV for the whole examination. This is very secured

Useful Materials - Books

This is highly recommended book for those preparing for the PMP Exam. This books help me to understand and master the PMBOK 2004.

I'd say without this book, I cannot pass it in my 1st attepmt.

You could purchase this book from the Data Bank or online which provides better discount.
I still own this book, if you'd like to get this 2nd hand book. Email me.

There is 40 questions for each knowledge areas plus a 200 questions to simulate the exam but the 200 questions are come from the same pools.
The questions they are asking does not match the style of the PMP exam. I find this questions not easy to answer as you need to know the exact wordings of the PMBOK in order to get it right.
So, I think the Rita's book is good enough for the preparation plus the sample questions found on the web.

Efforts Spent

I spent more than 3 years of preparing my PMP!!! Believe it or not!!!

  • 1 week before the exam date, I took 1 week-off to have a concentrated study. 8:30am - 6:00pm daily at my mommy's home (as my lovely 23-months baby prefer me to study her books and play her toys instead of mine!) This is very important as our busy work do not allow us to have a good time to study and concentrate on the PMP materials
  • 4 months before the exam date, I applied for the PMP examination. My life change at that time as I have a very clear target ahead. I took for 2 additional training sessions conducted by PMI HK Chapter at June and July to see the gap for my study. This is very important to set the target as my experience describe later will tell you why.
  • 1 year before the exam date, I took a training session from the Technix-Pro which I considered this is a 雞精 lesson.
  • 2 year before the exam date, I took a certificate of PMP from SCOPE which start my PMP study.
  • 3 year before the exam date, my boss suggest me to think about my career path and PMP is one of those he recommended. My work require me to handle a lot of projects so I picked this one as my milestone.

In fact, I was thinking of sitting for the examination after my 1st class PMP at year 2005, but as my 1st baby come to the world. I need to postpone it. At year 2006, I took another classroom training with a viewing to sit for an examination after that. However, there is a major change in my work life that I do not have any time to concentrate my study and thus not taking yet. Finally, I think I should not make any execuse again. I push myself to corner by applying it and pay the examination fee. This is something pushing me to study hard and tackle any barrier against me.

I become PMP as of 18-Sep-2007 (918)

I sit for an PMP examination today (18-Sep-2007) at HKEA 香港考試局. I spent 3 hours and 40 minutes to complete all the questions carefully. The result is satisfactory. Thanks God, I PASS IT in my 1st attempt.

Also, thank you to my wife's support.

Here I will try to share with you how I prepared for the examination and hope it will be benefit to you
